Dominica welcomes the families of legal residents, students, and workers through its Family Visa (Dependent Permit) system. This visa allows spouses, children, and other eligible dependents to join their family members who are legally residing in the Commonwealth of Dominica, either temporarily or permanently.
Eligible dependents include:
Spouse of the primary visa holder or Dominican citizen
Children under 18 years (or under 25 if enrolled in full-time education)
Parents of the primary applicant (in special cases, subject to approval)
Applicants must prepare and submit the following documents:
A completed visa or residence permit application form
A valid passport (minimum 6 months validity)
Passport-sized photographs (2 recent)
A copy of the sponsor’s legal status in Dominica (e.g., student visa, work permit, or citizenship proof)
Marriage certificate (for spouses)
Birth certificates (for children or dependents)
Proof of financial support from the sponsor (bank statements, employment letter, or scholarship)
Police clearance certificate from country of residence (issued within the last 6 months)
Medical certificate showing good health
All documents not in English must be accompanied by a certified English translation
The sponsoring resident must prove adequate accommodation and financial means
The family visa does not automatically grant work rights to dependents — a separate work permit must be applied for if employment is sought
Processing Time: Usually between 2–4 weeks, depending on the complexity of the case
Validity: Typically granted for the duration of the sponsor’s visa or residency status and renewable upon extension of the primary holder’s status
Dependents must register with the Immigration Department upon arrival
Any changes in address, marital status, or educational institution must be reported
Children attending school in Dominica must also comply with the Ministry of Education’s regulations
Dominica’s family visa policy emphasizes family unity while maintaining proper immigration checks. Whether you’re a student, professional, or resident in Dominica, your loved ones can be close to you through a structured and legally recognized visa pathway.
